Update and small paintings

So, I really have been slacking on posting lately..I have been working on a couple small jobs and have been trying to work on personal stuff too but always seem to get stuck somewhere towards the end..or well, maybe the middle. :/
Next week I leave for my very first Comic-Con in San Diego and I am so excited! Maybe seeing all the awesomeness will get my creative juices flowing once again!

Kri's cousins were visiting from Toronto for a couple weeks and I hadn't seen them in ages! I did these two little watercolors for them as a goodbye gift.

Have a great Wednesday!

Starting a band...with love!

A wedding save-the-date I did recently for a totally awesome couple, Christy and Jim. They wanted to be on stage and look like they were 'starting a band' but dolled up in wedding attire. Even their dog Tinka got to make an appearance. It was fun to draw this especially since I was working with a couple that had such creative ideas!

Talented ballerina friends

Lately ballet classes at Shawl-Anderson have been really awesome. I really enjoy taking dance classes with friends so I drew them in their dancey attire! :)

This is Mayka.
She is very pretty and funny and has cool dance gear too..lots of sparkly gymnastic stuff! (although I drew her in her more basic clothes) She is a great writer-check out her blog for some good laughs...seriously.

Britsketch is a super artist and she has very pretty and unique features! She also had wonderfully fluffy hair!

Jeannie and some paint

Here is my Jeannie sitting her her bottle. Hm...so this was supposed to be for art jumble but I missed the topic deadline...partly due to the fact that I tried to paint it and it didn't turn out like I wanted so I turned to something that didn't fail me-Flash!

I also got some Gouache a couple days ago to try out for the first time. It is a lot of fun but really challenging. Above is my first attempt at an Asian badass inspired by recent drawing sessions and such. Better luck next time with this lovely expensive paint. Happy Monday! :)

Sketches

On Saturday Ikumi, Brit and I dressed up like Asian assassins and modeled for our own drawing session. I'm going to be starting a project this year and I needed to do some study sketches..hopefully more to come soon. :)

Silk Spectre II

I got stuck with this one so I just had her posed from the back.
Well..I finished my Watchmen females...on to something else besides black and yellow.

Original Silk Spectre

Since Art Jumble decided to have their 'WATCHMEN' topic for two weeks in a row I decided to do another one of the female superheros. I might do Silk Spectre II also but I haven't decided yet.

Silhouette from WATCHMEN

I was fortunate enough to see Watchmen with some friends at Pixar over the weekend. It was my first time really getting to know the story and although it was a bit dark for me I am very interested in reading the comic now. I really wish I saw more of this attractive character,Silhouette (who was actually a member of the Minutemen.)
I've also posted this to Illustration Friday as the topic is 'Intricate' and I feel that Silhouette's costume is pretty detailed with many intricate buttons.

Painting for Red Onion

An acrylic painting Juan and I did together for our friend Johnny Yee, Restaurant owner of the BEST EVER!...Original Red Onion in Pinole..which has the best food along with a ton of artwork hanging on the wall.
We started it during Chinese New Year but had some issues so it took a while longer.Usually during Chinese New Year, the 'funny man' feeds the lion a head of cabbage as a goodluck offering so we decided to paint him feeding him a big burger!
If you are ever around the Pinole area, please try this restaurant because it is sooo good!
Here it is framed and happy Friday everyone!

Wondercon

I went to Wondercon this past weekend and it was a lot of fun. I met a bunch of awesome artists and ran into many friends. I didn't get to take a lot of pics but here are some of them.

My sisters favorite childhood cartoon is Robin Hood...she thought he was "sooo handsome!" I took this picture to make her jealous.

The amazingly talented David Colman was nice enough to fit me on his commissions list! I asked for my favorite animal-a peacock and I am absolutely delighted with this totally awesome drawing...it's expression is fantastic! :)

A very cool bumblebee costume

One of my favorite comic artists J. Scott Campbell!
I'm in love with danger girl.

It's my first time participating in illustration Friday. The topic is 'celebrate' and I think it's time to celebrate one of my favorite holidays.

An early Valentines gift

A while ago I asked Juan if he could make me my dream light table...a heart shaped one. I drew him this sketch to give a rough idea of what I wanted.

He ended up doing so much more than I expected and spent countless hours working on the table. There are so many things about it that are just so awesome! He reinforced the heart top with wood underneath and has it hinged so it can be elevated. The light inside is nested on a tilted base to match the angle of the table top. The best part is that Juan wired the table so it has an ON and OFF switch plus an extra outlet in case I want to attach a table lamp...or charge my cell phone. ;)
Here are some progress pictures

And the finished product. I love this table so much and cannot wait to start using it!

Kid stuff

A couple weeks ago I came across my old elementary school artwork. Just for fun I decided to post some of the drawings. They are quite embarrassing to look at now but at the time I thought they were fantastic!...haha
The picture below is a comparison of a mermaid I drew when I was 7 and a sketch I drew a few months ago. The funny thing is that they are in such a similar pose holding the same kind of shell and I drew them years apart.

I remember I was especially proud of this one of Ariel and her sisters. One of my favorite scenes from the movie was at the beginning when all the sisters were singing at the concert...I feel like those cute characters don't get enough recognition.

Snake Charmer

I have sadly not been able to post as much as I would like but at least I have been sketching daily.
Anyway, here are some quick marker studies for a new painting that I would like to do sometime in the future.
